Sotaro Takiguchi received the Student Presentation Award at the 59th Annual Meeting of the Biophysical Society of Japan.

The WISE Student, Mr. Sotaro Takiguchi received the Student Presentation Award at the 59th Annual Meeting of the Biophysical Society of Japan.

Mr. Sotaro Takiguchi, an Engineering student at the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, presented his research results at the 59th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Biophysics. In this presentation, he proposed a method to recognize patterns of up- and down-regulation of cancer marker microRNAs by DNA computation and to rapidly decode the output information using nanopore measurement. This method, which does not require multi-step operations or fluorescence detection as in conventional information decoding methods, is expected to be applied to rapid cancer diagnosis. This presentation received the Student Presentation Award.

Congratulations to Sotaro Takiguchi!

■ Title: Nanopore decoding for DNA-computed microRNA patterns involving over- and under-expression

■ Abstract: DNA computation is an information processing mechanism using DNA molecules, and recently it is expected to be applied to pathological diagnosis and treatment. In this study, we proposed a method to recognize up- and down-regulation patterns of cancer marker microRNAs by DNA computation and to rapidly decode the output information using nanopore measurement. This method is expected to be applied to rapid cancer diagnosis, because it does not require multi-step operations and fluorescence detection like conventional information decoding methods.
