The WISE student, Mr. Yusuke Tomita, whose paper has been published in Organic Letters, a journal of the American Chemical Society.

Yusuke Tomita, a first-year master’s student in the Department of Applied Chemistry, Graduate School of Engineering, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, together with his team members in the same university’s Graduate School of Engineering, has successfully separated cyclohexadiene, vinylcyclobutene, and bicyclo[3.1.0]hexene from acetylene and butadiene derivatives, which are common chemical raw materials.

Congratulations, Yusuke Tomita!

■ Title of paper

Cobalt-catalyzed Divergent Cycloadditions of Alkynes with Conjugated Dienes Yielding 3-Vinylcyclobutenes, Bicyclo[3.1.0]hexenes, and Cyclohexa-1,4-dienes

■ Abstract

We have succeeded to separated cyclohexadiene, vinylcyclobutene, and bicyclo[3.1.0]hexene from acetylene and butadiene derivatives, which are common chemical raw materials. This reaction, called the divergent reaction, is a powerful tool for synthesizing the backbone of natural products and intermediates for pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals from simple raw materials.
