Dr. KAWABATA Masahiro, WISE Program alumnus, won the “ICPE2024 Excellent Paper Award” at ICPE2024
Dr. KAWABATA Masahiro (a WISE program alumnus who graduated in September 2024), an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT), and Professor SASAHARA Hiroyuki (his former supervisor), won the “ICPE2024 Excellent Paper Award” at ICPE2024 (The 20th International Conference on Precision Engineering) in October 2024.
■Award name:
ICPE2024 Excellent Paper Award
■Award Overview
・Title of Award
“Development of deposition height control system for GTAW-based additive manufacturing”
・Summary of award-winning paper content
Wire and arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) applies an arc discharge to melt and deposit metal for three-dimensional (3D) fabrication. However, maintaining a constant deposition height is difficult because of the need to deal with molten metal. To overcome this problem, a deposition height control system was developed, which manipulates the heat input amount. It was clarified that stable deposition can be achieved by applying this system.
